Capitol Lighting – Lighting It Up for 88 years

0

I had the pleasure of attending an amazing blogger event at Capitol Lighting to help celebrate their 88th year in business. Eric Lebersfeld (who bore a striking resemblance to celebrity chef Bobby Flay!) warmly greeted us into his store. I didn’t know where to look first with all the gorgeous light fixtures hanging. It was truly a shoppers dream! I mean, how can you beat a place that offers 110% price guarantee and price matching?! In fact, I was so angry I didn’t need a new fixture because so many caught my eye.

The Lebersfeld's started it all..

This 4-generation family-run business started back in New Jersey in 1924 with just one store. They have now expanded to a total of 8 stores between Jersey and Florida and of course made their presence online with 1800lighting.com. While listening to Eric speak about his family and their business, you can see just how much he loves what he does – lighting literally runs through his blood! It’s nice to see a leader exude such happiness when speaking about the company his family built and his employees share that same excitement, which is rare to see! With most of its competition coming from other internet suppliers and home stores like Lowes & Home Depot, changing with the times is at the top of their marketing plan. They want to move from “Mortar & Brick” to “Mortar & Click” – which is absolutely genius in an Internet driven world. With changes like this, they will surely be around for another 88 years!

all the lighting goodies!

discoooooo!

Besides the crazy amount of gorgeous fixtures and enjoyable company (shout out to my fellow lovely bloggers Caroline from Smarty Pants Mama, Leanette from TeachMe2Save, Zippi from Champagne Living & Jennifer from TheRebelChick!) I actually learned a few things about lighting that I would have never known about on my own. Everyone is always looking for a way to save on their electric bill (I know I always am, per my husbands nagging!) Well, one EASY way to help is to install dimmers. Simple as that. By just putting your lights on a dimmer and keeping it about 10% from the max, you can save on not only your electric bill but the life span of your bulbs. Who woulda thunk it?! Good thing I have dimmers! Capitol Lighting even provides videos that explains the use of dimmers along with a plethora of other videos with helpful tips and info – and some are just hysterical!

fab ladies!

One of the best parts about the Capitol Lighting family is how they are giving back to the community. They have partnered with Habitat for Humanity & Rob Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice (ice, baby) in an effort to “Make Lives Brighter”. What the program does is offer people to bring in their old lighting fixtures to any Capitol Lighting location, in return for a 10% discount on any fixture in the store. With the donated light fixture, Capitol Lighting will repurpose it for Habitat For Humanity homes.  Along with the 10% discount, you will also get a tax deduction for your donated light fixture from Habitat For Humanity. Can’t beat that! Learn more about Making Lives Brighter here.

Celebrating 88 yrs!

As I was getting ready to leave, I had to take one more lap around the store, specifically to see there new line of patio furniture. My backyard is bare and needs some love and man, do they have some great pieces! If only my husband didn’t put me on a budget, I would have snagged up this:

hope the coronas are included!

And these too:

If you are in the market for some new light fixtures and installation, fans, patio furniture, or even a new job-Captiol Lighting has it all. It really is nice to see a local business that has adapted to the fast-paced, internet-driven world, but still keep that “mom and pop” store feel.
