De-Funkifying Your Towels

0

If you read my post from a few weeks ago, I have been having quite the problem with funky smells that are coming from my front loading washing machine. After I finally found a way to clean out the grim and smell in there, I decided it was time to De-funkify my machine and the stanky towels that seem to be picking up the moldy, gross smell from said machine.

I researched every site I could find – Pinterest, blogs, articles – and all of them had one thing in common: Vinegar. Seems this potent stuff works miracles on just about anything. I would have never guessed it…then again before becoming a mom the only potent stuff I worried about was vodka. Sigh..how I love you, vodka…….

Anyways, back to the matter at hand: my gross towels. No matter how many times I washed them, or how quickly I moved them from the washer to the dryer, the minute I would pull them out and hold them to my nose to sniff, because lets face it, one of the best smells in the world is fresh laundry right out of the dryer. Well, they would immediately stink like butthole. One of the many downsides of having a front loading washing machine. But I’m not about to ask my husband for a new washing machine for Christmas so this is what I had to do:

What you’ll need:

  • 1-2 cups White Distilled Vinegar
  • 1/2-1 cup of Baking Soda

Step 1: Vinegar

Just like cleaning your machine, you have to do a few washes to get your towels de-funkified. In the liquid section of the detergent drawer, fill with white distilled vinegar – about 1-2 cups. I let it pour and over flow a little bit. Also, make sure you shut the door before doing this step, I forgot and vinegar decided to pour out of my machine. Run on warm/hot cycle.

Step 2: Baking Soda

After your vinegar cycle has been complete, open the door and throw about 1/2-1 cup full of baking soda right over your towels. Run on warm/hot cycle again.

Step 3: Detergent

Once that cycle is complete, wash your towels for a third time, this time as you would normally with detergent. Leave out any fabric softener.

Step 4: Dry, Baby, Dry!

Immediately after the final cycle is done throw the towels in the dryer for the last phase of the de-funkifying process. After its done your towels should be smelling like new!

Be sure to do this every so often to keep your towels so fresh and so clean.
