4 Inexpensive DIY Gifts For Christmas 2012

0

Every Christmas I end up getting stumped like no other on gifts for a few family members. What makes this year any different right? So I’ve decided to step out of the box and try to find some unique AND inexpensive gifts this year….that I can make!

Salt Dough Ornaments

Get your DIY big girl panties on and make some cute ornaments! All you need is about 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt and a 1/4 cup (give or take) of water. Knead until dough forms. You can put your child’s hand/foot print on it, your dog or cats paw, wedding ring impressions or anything else you can think of that will be meaningful to the giftee. You can paint it, leave it plain or even spray it with some clear lacquer.  I plan on doing this with my daughters chubby little hands and letting her paint her heart out.

Family Recipe Book

My family is huge into cooking. We have recipes that have been in the family for ages that are usually only cooked around holiday times. Simply ask your relatives for some of their favorite recipes and compile them in a book. You can even take pictures during the holidays and make a book on Snapfish or Shutterfly of all the holiday recipes that have become a tradition in your family.

“Design Your Own” Mug

At the Dollar Store, I stumbled across 16 oz plastic travel mugs that you can decorate. You just screw off the top and can put in pictures, a drawing from your child – just about anything that fits! Great gift for grandparents or aunts & uncles. You can even go to Snapfish or any of those online photo places and print out a 5×7 collage of pictures to fit right in.

DIY Canvas Picture

Art can get pretty pricey, but thanks to Pinterest you can pretty much do anything yourself now a days. If you have friends or family that is into art or pictures, this is a must – and its very easy! All you need is a canvas of any size of your liking, a favorite picture (hit up your artsy friends for this!) the same size as the canvas, ModPodge, sponge brush, and an exacto knife. Check out what The Exhausted Mom for all the instructions and what the final product looks like. These are great again for grandparents!
