My husband considers himself a movie fanatic. Claims he’s seen pretty much every movie out there, and I’ll admit, he’s right. He can quote the most random of movies, except one specific genre. The most coveted of cult movies – the coming of age, 80’s teen classics. What.The.Fuck. When I asked him about movies like “Sixteen Candles”, “The Breakfast Club”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Say Anything”, he just sat there, confused. ?!?!?!?!?! Ok, I’d understand if he maybe hadn’t seen one or two, but EVERY movie I mentioned he said no. How does he not know who Samantha Baker or Long Duck Dong is?? Or the crazy weekend Wyatt and Gary have with the woman they created from their computer while wearing bras on their head? It’s sick I tell you. Sick.
I vowed to myself I would get him to watch as many movies as I could. So we started with “The Breakfast Club” because I had just about enough of him not understanding any of my references. So we sat there, watched every single minute of that movie. I would look at him to see his reactions to certain scenes…and nothing. In fact, he may or may not have fallen asleep at some point. Finally when it was over I couldn’t wait to hear his thoughts. First thing out of his mouth – “OH my GOD that movie SUUUUCKED!”. I could not believe that came out of his mouth. Clearly there is something wrong with him. He hated Bender, though Emilio Estevez’s character was a douche bag and wanted to vomit every time he saw Molly Ringwald. And would say how ugly she is every.single.time she would be in a scene. F
I don’t know, but I guess its because he’s a dude that he didn’t swoon over these kind of movies like me and the rest of the world. Or that he was too busy standing on the street corners of BK, drinking 40’s, playing stick ball. In any event, I will be torturing forcing him to watch the rest of these classics. Should be fun, for me at least. Mwahahah.
You may be wondering why the hell I would even write about this. That’s just how my mind works.
Annnnnnnnnnd that’s my random ass thought for this lovely Thursday.
