Yes. It has.
I love watching reality TV. It’s mindless, full of entertainment and drama. I love to unwind by watching my TiVo’d reality shows after a long day of dirty diapers and chasing around an almost 10 month old. My husband makes fun of me, but I don’t care. I love all the craziness of the Housewives and the Mob Wives, Top Chef’s, Real World & everything else Food Network, E! and Bravo produce. It’s my guilty pleasure.
But I have to say, as I watched last nights season finale of ‘Khourtney & Kim Take New York’ I was kind of appalled. Grant it, I felt this way since I saw the very first episode of this season as it began with headlines about Kim and Kris’ short lived marriage. (Yes, I also watch all things Kardashian, again, guilty pleasure.) It just seemed completely inappropriate. Having viewers tuning in every Sunday to watch a couples marriage collapse. I know what you are thinking, if I thought it was so inappropriate, why did I continue to watch? Well, like the rest of the world, I guess I was just curious. I’ve seen every episode of every show they put out, I had to watch this one as well. Doesn’t mean I agreed with it. It makes me sad, as a married lady, that problems with in the walls of someones relationship, that are meant to be private, were not. I would never want people I don’t know to see problems my husband and I were having. Problems within a marriage should stay behind closed doors and not be put on TV for the whole world to see or for a station to get high ratings for that matter.
I get that the whole Kardashian Klan prides themselves on being “real” and having nothing to hid from their fans or the world. But c’mon. I’m sure there were contracts signed and what not, but as I sat watching a marriage dissolve on camera, it made me think where should reality TV draw the line? I know letting cameras in to peoples lives and allowing them follow “uncensored” is the whole appeal of “reality” television. But morally, I feel making a show that was building up to a divorce that everyone already knew about is just plain wrong. What’s it showing those viewers? Hey, get married to any jerkoff you want-you can always get a divorce, who cares!!! All I know is, I love being married, I love the sanctity of marriage and what it stands for. Every relationship has its ups and downs, I just wouldn’t want to air my dirty laundry for every to see and I don’t think famous people should either. Sigh.
That’s my two cents.
