I recently dined, or should I say stuffed my face, at a new deli around the corner from my house in Boca Raton, Zinger’s Delicatessen. As I walked into the sleek, modern deli, I was greeted very warmly by the staff and then began floating to my table on the delicious aroma that filled the air. Deli food is probably one of my top 5 favorite foods of all time, so hearing that Zinger’s makes practically EVERYTHING from scratch, I couldn’t wait to indulge.
I began my decadent meal with a deli staple, matzoh ball soup. The matzoh ball was ginormous, probably the size of my 10 month old’s head! It was so soo delicious, tasted just like my mother-in-law’s – that’s usually the test! One of Zinger’s specialties is their Latke Tot’s. O.M.G. Bite size pieces of homemade potato pancakes, fried and served with apple sauce and sour cream. I am drooling just thinking about them! I’ve literally told everyone I know about these little pieces of heaven.
I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Zinger, the owner of the deli. He treated us like true royalty. The table was over-flowing with homemade goodies like chicken, egg, and tuna salad platters, potato and spinach knishes, corned beef, brisket and my favorite, pastrami. Zinger’s prides itself on their homemade meats. As they should – this was some of the best pastrami I’ve had in ages! Everything was accompanied by their homemade rye bread. I could have eaten the entire plate of pastrami with the rye myself! It was so flavorful and with a little squirt of deli mustard…to.die.for.
Now what meal wouldn’t be complete without dessert. Their homemade desserts did not disappoint this sweets lover. Mile-high chocolate and carrot cake, NY-style cheesecake, rainbow cookies and rugelach. I was going into sugar overload and it was totally worth it. Now, I am very particular when it comes to my rainbow cookies because they are one of my mom’s specialties. But I have to say, these came in a close second to my mom’s – I kept going back for more!
If you are in the Boca area, from NY or appreciate a good deli, Zinger’s is where it’s at. My husband and I are already planning our next trip there with some family members and I will be trying their famous 20 ingredient turkey burger that I didn’t have room for on my first visit!
Oh, and be sure to meet Gary – he’s a riot!
