Review: KidCo ChildProofing Cabinet Locks

0

As promised, here is my review for my baby hell aka childproofing.

It took me over a week to put everything up. Yes, a week. I’m lazy and it took me quite some time to figure out those damn things up.

Overview

I ended up purchasing KidCo Secure Stick Adhesive Mount Locks at BuyBuyBaby. I had to buy the starter pack, which came with 2 locks and a magnet. Then purchase 2 additional packs of 4 to lock every cabinet. They came with adhesives already attached to both the locks and mounts along with enough screws in case you wanted to screw them in.

KidCo Secure Stick Adhesive Mount Locks

I opted to use adhesive mounts because I hate the thought of drilling into my cabinets. Not only were they freaking expensive ($29.99/4 pack & $21.99/2 pack starter pack) but they were confusing as hell! I guess I went into the whole process thinking they were complicated, so it screwed with my head from the get-go.

The Installation

I began this whole baby proofing shenanigans with the media unit. The first one I installed was a mess. I had to peel it off and re-apply it like 4 times. I wanted to bang my head against the tile floor. So I took a break for a few days.

After I forgot about my melt down, I enlisted my husbands friend who was here visiting to help me finish the media unit. He’s an electrician so he busted out the tape measure and tools to stick that bad boy on. After about 20 minutes it was up! And then we needed some alcohol because it was the most painful 20 minutes EVER! Of course I stopped for a few more days, which brings me to Monday afternoon. I needed to finish, no more bs’in around. I stuck on the mount to the inside-top of my cabinet, then sat there for a good ten minutes trying to figure out a way to make it line up with lock portion. Then a beam of light filled the sky and angels started singing. I ripped the adhesive covering off the lock, fixated the lock on the mount, slammed the cabinet door so it would stick to the lock and boom! Installed. Why the hell didn’t I think of this a week ago!?!?!?

boooom! installed.

Within 5 minutes my entire kitchen was Baby A proofed. I’m sure there was another way to put them up, but I clearly didn’t read the directions! But the stick, slam, done method worked out great.

Durability

Like I said before, if I decided to screw them into the cabinets, no doubt they would be the more durable than using the adhesives that were attached to the back of each lock and mount. But considering I chose that route, they have actually seemed to hold up. It has only been a few days, but they hold up to Baby A’s yanking and that girl has got some guns.

Pros/Cons

Pros:

  • No ugly plastic locks on the outside of my doors
  • Option of using adhesive instead of screws
  • Easy to install (once I was able to figure it out duhhh)
  • Durable

Cons:

  • Magnet key opener. You don’t realize how often you open and close those cabinets. Make sure you don’t misplace the magnet key.
  • Pricey. It starts adding up, especially if you have a lot of cabinets.

AntiMomBlog Rating

Overall I would give this a 4 out of scale of 5. They are keeping Baby A out of my shit and seem to be holding up to the many failed attempts of opening. I am praying to baby jesus that the adhesives continue to stick. Lets just see if this rating will change after a few weeks…..
