Disney Dining: Where To Eat, Part 1

1

On our recent trip to Disney, we had all intention of doing it the economical way: packing breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks and bringing them to park. Lets face it, it can get pricey with a big group when it comes to dining at Disney World. Well, we accomplished a portion of that goal! We brought breakfast foods to eat in the hotel before we left for the day, packed our backpacks and bags with snacks and lunch for the kids. We had all intention of going back to the hotel and eating sandwiches there while the kids napped but that didn’t happen! Of the 2 days we were visiting parks, we knew 1 of the days would consist of a character lunch at Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom and on our departure day a character breakfast at Disney’s Beach Club Resort Cape May Restaurant. We basically needed to cover ourselves with one day of eating on a budget.

So, still being some-what budget conscious, we luckily scouted out places that wouldn’t be too expensive in case we did steer from plan. Sleepy Hollow was one of the restaurants we found, thanks to The Disney Food Blog. Famous for its waffle sandwiches, we knew this was the place we’d most likely eat or snack at. Sleepy Hollow is located in the beginning of Liberty Square, by the Hall of Presidents and literally a stones throw away from Cinderella’s Castle. In fact, the picnic table area has a side view of the castle – and if you get there during one of the shows, its a great place to relax and sneak a show in minus the crowds.

Notice the prosciutto in the background of the first pic – the only shot of the Ham, Prosciutto & Cheese waffle I got! All incredibly delicious!

The menu consists of small snacks, refreshments, coffee, ice cream sandwiches and even floats. We were there for one reason and one reason only – the waffle sandwiches! Sleepy Hollow has two options: Sweet & Spicy Chicken and Ham, Prosciutto & Swiss Waffle Sandwiches. Obviously we had to try both! My parents had the Ham, Prosciutto & Swiss one dressed with tomatoes and arugula – they ate it before I could get a picture of it, so you know it was good! My husband and I got the Sweet & Spicy Chicken – crunchy, fried chicken breast, tossed in a sweet and spicy Asian sauce, topped with cool, refreshing coleslaw and arugula all atop a soft-yet-crispy waffle. I just drooled all over my table after typing that because just thinking about it makes me want to drive 3 hours north to Orlando, buy a ticket to Magic Kingdom just for this sandwich. (I blame preggo cravings) If you like spice and heat, this is the sandwich for you! You can get these sandwiches only from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

nutella

ooey, gooey, nutella-y deliciousness!

We finished our meal off with a Nutella, banana, strawberry and blueberry waffle. One of my favorite combos are fruit and nutella, so you didn’t have to ask me twice if I wanted it! The warm waffle slightly melts the nutella and the sweetness of the fruit bursts with flavor in your mouth. More drool on the table. My dad indulged in one of their Root Beer Floats and loved it!

Sleepy Hollow is a great place if you need a filling meal for under $10 – both waffle sandwiches were $6.99 each, the dessert waffle was $5.59. If you just want a waffle with whipped cream ($4.49) or one with strawberries ($5.59) they have them too! Even funnel cakes ($4.99-$5.59)! We even went back a few hours later into our long day for a pick-me-up – espresso’s, iced coffees and cappuccinos! It was a nice break, and everyone enjoyed the caffeine fix.

I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom, such a nice change from the burgers, chicken fingers and fries you can get through out the entire park! Plus-easy on the wallet :-)

Part 2 of our Disney Dining will focus on our Character Dining experiences, so be sure to stay tuned for that next week!
