Coffee: That steamy, percolated, caffeine packed goodness that everyone and their mother starts their days with. Everyone, that is, except me.
I may seem like the only adult in the world who doesn’t drink coffee. People often scratch their head when they find out this tidbit of info about me and wonder how the hell I function with out a cup of joe to jump start my day; especially with two little ones.
Simply put, caffeine is my kryptonite. It makes me shaky, palpultatey (yes, that is a word) and shoots my anxiety through the roof. You may be thinking, “Uh, hello! Decaffeinated!” but when push comes to shove I just loath the taste of coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll have a shot of espresso or a cappuccino once every blue moon but the thought of waking up every.single.day and drinking something hot is so unappealing.
I slowly started weaning off caffeine over 10 years ago and completely cut it out when I found out I had thyroid issues. Even Coke-a-Cola, although I have it on occasions but the smallest amount of caffeine will send my symptoms through the roof. Shaky extremities, heart palpitations so severe I feel like my heart is going to explode and heart burn like a mother.
So how do I get my day going if caffeine wears me down like that green stuff does to Super Man? Water. A big old glass of ice cold water. That shit gets my blood flowing and ready for the day ahead. If I’m feeling spunky, which is almost every day, I’ll throw in some lemon.
I know all you coffee drinkers are laughing in hysterics at me that I get the same effects from water that everyone else gets from coffee and think I’m a loony-toon but seriously! I crave that glass every morning and on days that I don’t drink it as soon as I wake up, my morning is thrown off.

So I challenge you to give up that cup of coffee in the morning or afternoon and sub in either a big cup of ice cold water with lemon. If you love having something warm in the a.m., try some warm water with lemon and I swear, you will see AND feel a difference!
