When I was a little girl, every peach season my dad would take the ones that were getting a little too ripe and soak them in wine. He would pile sliced peaches in a giant carafe then fill it with red wine. It was like a science project to me, as we waited and watch as the peaches began to turn maroon from sitting – for what seemed like an eternity – in the wine. As I got older and wiser, I realized these peaches were drunk! Typical Italians, right? Soaking some delicious fruit in even more delicious vino.
It’s been a while since we had them, and I always tell my husband of the fond memories I had growing up eating wine-soaked peaches. I’m pretty sure he is sick and tired of hearing them so I thought since I had some peaches who were nearing the end of their juicy lives that I’d make some and share this delectably drunken peaches recipe with you!
Drunken Peaches Recipe
- 1 Peach, cleaned, sliced
- 1 cup of Red Wine
Simply slice the peaches in wedges and add them to a large glass or carafe.
Pour in wine and make sure it is covering the peaches. Cover with saran wrap and place in refrigerator for 24 hours.
After letting soak for 24 hours, you are ready to enjoy those deliciously drunken peaches! We sit around the table after dinner and munch on a few. Don’t worry, you won’t get wasted eating them…just don’t eat all of them! Sharing is caring.
