When To Start Swim Lessons

0

Now that my 10-month old is walking like a pro, I thought about getting her involved in some outdoor activities. High on my list is swimming classes. Living in South Florida, its pretty much beach and pool weather all year round, but you can find me there mostly in the spring and summer-that’s when the water isn’t freezing. Well, freezing to a Floridians standard that is.

Beyond the fact that we can live in our swim suits all year round, most houses have pools in their back yard. We don’t, but pretty much everyone else in the state does. It is so vital to get your child acclimated to swimming at a young age due to the high risk of drownings that occur every year. As much fun as it is to lay by the pool and swim during the summer, its just as scary to think about all the drownings that happen. That is why you got to teach them young!

yay for swimming

So I have began my search to find the best school for our buck. There are plenty out there, that’s for sure. A lot for children over the age of 3 though. Booooo! But that won’t deter me. I am on a mission!

Believe it or not, I still am scarred from when my own parents put me in a survival course at the age of 2. I vaguely remember being pushed into the water out of no where and dropping to the bottom….but quickly doggy paddling to the wall. I was so pissed! But hey, it worked! Not saying I want my daughter to have the same traumatic experience, but it is well worth the initial shock to have her know what to do when shes in the pool.

So I ask all you moms out there, have you had any experience with survival/swim lessons for your babies? Are there certain things I should be looking for while researching? Or things I should stay clear of?! I could use all the help I can get!!!!!!!
