I wrote Monday how I was MIA from a nasty stomach virus and thought the damn thing had finally left my family after unleashing its massive destruction on everyone, sparing my husband and daughter. Well, I spoke way too soon. The other day turned out to be the day from stomach virus hell. Both my husband and daughter got whatever has been looming around.
After being thrown up on numerous times and on the verge of tears most of the day, I quickly had to pull myself together and put on my nurse, mommy, concerned wife and cleaning lady hats. I needed to make sure I didn’t get this damn thing again – I just kept getting flash backs of the 24 hours of pure hell I endured, threw on a mask and went to work.
So the main question was how do I disinfect the house and everything in it so we never have to deal with this thing ever again. Bleach, and lots of it! Every inch of my home was washed, scrubbed, Lysol’d – you name it, I used it. So here are some tips on how to keep your home germ free from this nasty flu bug flying around!
1. Vinegar & Water!
Vinegar has become a staple in my house for cleaning. Its great on towels and mixed with water in a spray bottle you can pretty much spray down every inch of your house starting with sinks, handles, door knobs, light switches, and even remotes.
2. Bleach
I used about a cup of bleach and mixed it in my sink with warm water and scrubbed my tile floors. I’m weird, but I love the smell of fresh washed floors with bleach. I know its killing germs and makes the house smell “clean”.
3. Bleach Spray
Yes, again with the bleach. Invest in a spray bottle of this stuff:
I clean everything it with it…especially toilet bowls. I just spray, wipe down certain areas and leave the rest to let it do its job. Kills germies instantaneously.
4. Lysol Wipes
Buy these suckers in bulk during cold and flu season! I have 1 giant container on each floor of my house and clean everything with them: door knobs, counter tops, faucets, toys, anything and everything we touch. I even pair it with the bleach spray-spray counters, sinks, toilets, knobs – wipe them down then go over with the Lysol wipes. Yes, I am SUPER paranoid of spreading even more virus’!
I do a regiment of all 4 every night after I put the baby to sleep. It’s a pain in my ass but its worth the extra work to not have to deal with that terrible stomach flu ever again!
